Ten Hag departs United after taking charge of 128 matches between his appointment in 2022 and today, with the team currently 14th in the Premier League.
On the club's website, a statement reads: "Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men's first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited."
The 20-time English champions have scored just eight goals in nine EPL games this season, while the team remains winless in the UEFA Europa League.
A difficult start to the campaign saw Ten Hag fall under enormous pressure, after INEOS' ownership group, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, decided to back him ahead of the season.
The Dutchman was reportedly almost sacked after the 2023/24 campaign, but the team's 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City seemingly rescued his job.

His former assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy will now oversee matters on an interim basis until a permanent appointment is made at a later stage.
