The story
Veli Mothwa endured a difficult evening in goal during Bafana Bafana's 2-2 draw against Uganda at Orlando Stadium in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Friday night.
Mothwa has been the subject of online criticism from fans following the howler that led to the Uganda's second goal, with the ball slipping through the AmaZulu keeper's hands in what should have been a fairly routine save.
The 33-year-old will be kept motivated by the fact that he has the backing of his teammates and fellow professional ballers after a wave of stars sent him messages of encouragement.
From his Bafana teammates Sphephelo Sithole and Zakhele Lepasa to Banyana Banyana shot-stopper Andile Dlamini, Mothwa was shown plenty of empathy in his Instagram post after the game.
"I love you brother to the moon and back, goalkeepers have a big heart and I wish you nothing but success. You are a great human being remember that!!! You are still one of the best keepers we have in SA," wrote Andile Dlamini.
"Keep going. You're very important," commented Zakhele Lepasa.
"We are with kasi. Keep going," wrote Cassius Mailula.
"Let he with no sin cast the first stone. We move," noted Zitha Kwinika, with Mothwa's ex-AmaZulu teammate Augustine Mulenga stating, "It was a setback yesterday and that day is gone. We know that you Come back strong on the next game."
