The 29-year-old could be included in a potential swap deal involving Jadon Sancho, which would see Sterling join Manchester United and his compatriot take his career to London.
According to The Telegraph, the Blues want to increase Enzo Maresca's options in attack, with Chelsea offering Sancho a possible escape from his disappointing time in Manchester.
Sterling would reportedly be interested in joining the Red Devils, despite having previously played for Liverpool and Manchester City, although there is said to still be some way to go before an agreement is reached.
The England winger has been told that he will not be included in Maresca's plans at Stamford Bridge, a decision that has taken him by surprise.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have been long-time admirers of Sancho and would be looking to include Sterling in their proposal for the 24-year-old.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, however, has reported that Juventus are not yet out of the race for Sancho, who did not feature in United's opening two Premier League matches of the season.
