Throughout this transfer window, it has been said that the Blaugrana have a burning desire to reinforce their left-wing position, and Nico Williams has been the player touted as their best fit for the position.
The 22-year-old played a starring role in Spain's triumphant journey at the 2024 UEFA European Championship, and the LALIGA juggernauts are eager to bring his talents to the Camp Nou, in large part due to his displays in Germany.
The youngster was given an extended holiday during pre-season due to his involvement in the latter stages of the aforementioned tournament, but having now returned to Athletic Club, a move to Catalonia seems unlikely.
Williams has seemingly not agitated for a transfer, and according to Marca, this is due to a number of reasons.
The first of which is believed to be sporting-related, with it is said that the left-winger believes his ascent to becoming a world-class attacker would be helped if he carried on developing in an environment he was familiar with.
Secondly, he is understood to be earning a significant wage at San Mames, and while he would have likely made more at Barca, Paris Saint-Germain or in the Premier League, he is reportedly content with his earnings at the Basque club.
The third reason is because of his family. Those dear to him all reside in Bilbao, and having been at the club since he was an 11-year-old, the Lions resonate with him on a deeper level than just being a football club.
