Earlier this month, the record Botola Pro Inwi champions announced that the South African tactician would be their newest managerial appointment ahead of the 2024/25 season, and he could not have got his preparations for the new campaign off to a better start.
For their first pre-season match of the off-season, the Red Castle went up against last season's Tanzanian Premier League runners-up, Azam FC.

Things started off brilliantly for the east African outfit when left-back Cheikh Sidibe opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 39th minute.
That lead was short-lived, however, as Mokwena's charges equalised before the break, courtesy of new signing Mohamed Rayhi.
The Casablanca-based side did not look back after half-time as goals from Mounir El Habach, Chouaib Faidi and Mohamed El Ouardi late in the second stanza subjected Azam to a hefty loss.

While the Tanzanian side may be playing continental football next season, that will not be the case for Mokwena's charges, and the 37-year-old has been tasked with rebuilding the African juggernaut after they suffered their worst league finish in a decade last campaign out.
