Rumours suggest that the 30-year-old is currently involved in a contractual dispute with the Club of the Century after reports suggested he could be sold.
Tau, whose contract is said to expire in June 2025, has requested Ahly pay him his full $1.25 million (R22.8 million) salary to leave ahead of his final season.
This is according to media figure Medhat Shalaby, who was speaking on the Ya Masaa Al Anwar programme on MBC Masr in quotes carried by the Egypt Telegraph.
"Al Ahly is negotiating with Percy Tau to leave at the end of the current season, after (Marcel) Koller requested the departure of one of the team's foreign wingers to bring in a foreign player in place of one of them," he said.
"Al Ahly decided to let Tau go due to the weak offers made to Moroccan Reda Slim, as the Red Devils chose to let South African Percy go.
"Tau asked Al Ahly to receive his full salary to leave the club, which is estimated at about 1.25 million dollars, or about 60 million Egyptian pounds.
"Al Ahly is now studying the offers presented to the player, especially since he has many offers, the most prominent of which are from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the Emirates."
