The Belgian has been rumoured to be the subject of major interest from Saudi Pro League sides as he enters the final year of his existing deal at the Etihad Stadium.
While it may have been presumed that the Citizens would want to cash in on the star this off-season, it seems the Premier League giants have no plans to part ways with the Drongen native just yet after Pep Guardiola confirmed he is not leaving in this transfer window.
Instead, according to the Daily Mail, the Mancunians want to ascertain what the 33-year-old's plans are for the future, and have called for a meeting with the 105-cap Belgium international to discuss the way forward.
The same report claims that in the event that De Bruyne does decide to run down his contract, the club wants to prepare themselves fiscally for the event by preserving finances.
This likely means that they would be looking to invest heavily in his potential replacement.
Attacking midfielders such as Jamal Musiala, who is rumoured to be of interest to the Mancunians, will have one year remaining on their existing deal after the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign.
