In the early hours of Thursday, shocking footage emerged online moments after Liverpool's Darwin Nunez was seen throwing punches at Colombia fans after Uruguay's 1-0 semi-final defeat in the United States.
The Mirror reports that things became heated between Uruguay and Colombia's players on the field after the game ended, until the Uruguayans made their way over to their families who were outnumbered by Colombian supporters.
Uruguayan outlet El Pais has since reported that Nunez and his teammates headed to the stands to protect their loved fans as they were "being abused".
As their families were escorted down to the field at the Bank of America Stadium, a fight between Uruguay's players and a section of Colombia fans broke out, which involved several punches being thrown.

Paris Saint-Germain and Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte was reportedly injured in the incident, while Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez called the lack of protection "a disaster".
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has since issued a statement to condemn the violent scenes.
"There is no place for intolerance and violence on or off the pitch," it read.
"CONMEBOL strongly condemns any act of violence affecting football.
"We invite everyone to put all their passion into cheering on their national teams and having an unforgettable party in the days that remain."
