Despite former coach Rulani Mokwena stating that he is no longer a Mamelodi Sundowns player, Abubeker Nasir has been spotted as part of the club's pre-season preparations.

Nassir struggled with injury for a large majority of the 2023/24 season, which saw him make just three appearances in all competitions for Sundowns.
As a result, the club opted to deregister the Ethiopian international, to free up one of their foreign spots.
The club's former coach Mokwena subsequently stated that he would not speak about the player, given that he was no longer a Sundowns player.
"He's not a Sundowns player, so I don't want to talk about Abubeker Nasir. He is not a Sundowns player because he is not registered. I don't talk about people who are not Sundowns players," he told PowerFM in a recent interview.
But Nassir, who still has a year left on his contract which expires in 2025, has resurfaced at the club.
In a recent video posted by the club, Nasir was spotted amongst the players at the club's Chloorkop base alongside the rest of the returning players like Ricardo Goss who spent the last two seasons on loan at SuperSport United.
It remains to be seen whether Nassir will be granted an opportunity to fight for his place at Sundowns, having seemingly shaken off his injury woes that have plagued him since his arrival at the club in 2022. It is also possible that Nasir has been allowed to train with the club to boost his fitness before securing a new club.
