Riyad Mahrez has found himself in a situation similar to Percy Tau's ahead of the upcoming international break as he has reportedly made a big call on his immediate future with Algeria.

When announcing his final squad that will face the Desert Foxes and Andorra later this month, Hugo Broos said that Tau was not chosen as a result of all the criticism he received following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to La Gazette du Fennec, the same is true for Algeria's captain Mahrez. The 33-year-old failed to lead the north African giants out of their group for the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast and because of this, he has suffered a lot of backlash among the nation's supporters.
It is said that the Al Ahli winger first informed Algerian Football Federation president Walid Sadi about his need to stay away from the national team for their upcoming games against Bafana Bafana and Bolivia.
The same report claims that the new national team head coach, Vladimir Petkovic called Mahrez the following day and that they had a frank discussion about the situation.
