While he will see out the season in Paris Saint-Germain's colours, it is very much expected that the 25-year-old will be wearing the famous white of Los Blancos when the 2024/25 campaign gets underway.
Mbappe has informed the Ligue 1 champions of his decision to leave as a free agent at the end of June, with rumours suggesting he will finally join Real – the club that has been in pursuit of his signature since he was a teenager.
The BBC reports the France captain will earn annual wages of around €14.9 million (R303 million) in Spain, seemingly after tax deductions, while it is believed the Spanish giants have agreed to pay him a signing-on bonus of €149.5 million (R3 billion).
Here are Real's 12 highest earners today and how much they earn per year:
With Real set to land Mbappe as a free agent, it is thought they will effectively be paying the player the money, in the form of the signing-on fee, they would have been willing to offer PSG for his services.
According to Capology, Toni Kroos is currently Real's highest annual earner on €11.7 million (R238.3 million), although he is followed closely by England's Jude Bellingham, Brazil winger Vinicius Junior, Croatia legend Luka Modric and Austria captain David Alaba.
Further down the list of the European giants' best-paid players are stars such as Federico Valverde, who reportedly earns €8 million after tax (R162 million) annually, and Belgian shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois.
Reports also suggest that Mbappe could be in line to inherit Modric's No. 10 jersey next season should the midfielder hang up his boots, with his deal set to expire in June.
