OPINION: If Mbappe Has Any Shame, He Will Move To The EPL

Kylian Mbappe is almost certainly going to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid is tipped to be his favoured destination. If he has any shame, though, he will ditch those plans and make his way to England, writes Kamogelo Motecwane.

With each passing day, it seems as though Bondy's favourite son is edging closer to realising his childhood dream, and that is to don the famous white of Los Merengues.

One cannot fault a person who is perhaps football's best player today for wanting to associate himself with one of the game's most prestigious institutions; it seems only right. The likes of Luis Figo, Ronaldo Nazario, Zinedine Zidane, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, all Ballon d'Or winners, have all made the ascension by linking up with the most decorated club in European football.

While Mbappe does have a claim to being the best player in the world, one thing he does not have in common with the aforementioned legends is that he has not achieved a tremendous amount of success prior to a move to Real.

Yes, he won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but he was not the focal point of that France team's success. Zidane and Ronaldo won football's biggest prize being the main man of the national team. Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo led their respective clubs, AC Milan and Manchester United, to UEFA Champions League triumphs, being the main reason why their teams reached the apex of European football before they moved to the Santiago Bernabeu.

It seems a necessary rite of passage to be the main man at a less prominent club, so to speak, and achieve success with that team before moving to Real. Mbappe is PSG's all-time top goalscorer, but it doesn't seem like his presence there is advantageous for either party if they both want to fulfil their desired aspirations.

So he needs to take this opportunity of becoming a free agent, and move to the Premier League. Liverpool and Arsenal seem like the most sensible clubs to sign for, for different reasons.

At Anfield, you have a club that has been competitive in England for the past six years and will provide you with a genuine chance of winning the Champions League almost every year because of their affinity for the competition. It may be a bit of a risk going there with the man that has guided them to all their success in recent seasons, Jurgen Klopp, set to leave at the end of this season, but with Xabi Alonso's potential arrival at the club, the Reds could continue to compete on all fronts for a while longer.

Moving to the Emirates Stadium would also be good for Mbappe. A club that has a deep connection with French superstars, such as its all-time top goalscorer Thierry Henry, as well as its greatest ever manager being French in Arsene Wenger. He would also be working under one of the beautiful game's brightest young minds in Mikel Arteta, and could possibly help lead the club to its first-ever major European trophy.

Above all else, he would be competing in arguably the most difficult division in the world, against a player who has been touted as his rival in Erling Haaland. With the Norwegian having already accomplished a historic treble in his first season with Manchester City, he has more credibility in the bank to make the move to the Spanish capital than Mbappe.

To become a Real Madrid star, you have to earn the right, especially when you're already a superstar like Mbappe. It seems like he is taking the easy way out trying to ride the coattails of the Spanish club's heritage in order to achieve European success, but while he may be trying to etch out a legacy of his own, a move to the Premier League is something that would amplify his legend even more than a move to Real so early on.
