Since the incredible rivalry between the Portuguese and Argentine began in Spain in 2009 following the former's then-world-record transfer to Real Madrid, it has been uncommon to see Los Blancos players praise Messi and Blaugrana stars hail Ronaldo.
Spain international Ferran Torres, however, has made it clear that the ex-Manchester United superstar is the footballer he admires most despite his belief that the former Barcelona captain is superior.
"I think that Leo (Messi) is the best in history," he said, according to Marca.
"I did not see [Diego] Maradona or Pele play, and even Ronaldinho, I was very young while he was shining.
"For Messi to remain at the top for 15-20 years, scoring 50 goals and providing 50 assists every year, I consider it something crazy.
"But you should also know that Cristiano is an example for me. He is my role model because he competed with the best player in history and this gives him a great advantage.
"To compete with Messi and succeed is to rob him of the Ballon d'Or awards."
The 23-year-old joined the Catalan giants in 2022, about six months after Messi left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in 2021.
