Ex-Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who used to room with Lionel Messi on international duty, has made a bizarre transfer claim about his compatriot's future.

The retired striker spent all of his international career as Messi's closest friend before attempting to link up with his compatriot at club level in 2021 following his free-agent move to Barcelona.
Messi, however, saw his deal at the Catalans expire at the end of June that year and was ultimately forced to move on as a free agent himself after Joan Laporta, president of the Spanish giants, decided against extending his contract.
Since his switch to Paris Saint-Germain and then Inter Miami in the United States, rumours of a potential return to the Blaugrana have done the rounds in the media, although the Argentine has said himself he is looking forward to a break in the coming months.
The Florida-based outfit's season ended in October, with pre-season for the 2024 campaign only set to begin in the new year.
This led to suggestions in recent months that the LALIGA team has considered trying to re-sign Messi on a short-term deal, like David Beckham did when he left LA Galaxy for AC Milan in 2009, but those reports appeared to be quickly shut down.
Aguero, however, has reportedly told AS that "sometimes I just think it's a matter of time" before his friend and ex-colleague returns to Barcelona, and that "Leo always said that he loves Barcelona" and is "very identified with the club and city".
