Pereira passed away on Sunday night after losing his battle with an illness.

During his time as a professional footballer, Pereira played as a striker and it was at Chiefs that he furthered his career after he joined the club in 1979, having previously turned out for the likes of Cape Town City, Highlands Park, Powerlines and Vaal United.

"It's a big loss and very sad. Besides the football side, he was also a great human being," said former Chiefs star Lucky Stylianou to Soccer Laduma.

"I have been keeping contact with Jingles and he told me that he wasn't well. But the last two or three months due to business commitments we hardly chatted. He's got a big business and I've got my own business. I told him that whenever I am in the area I will come past but it wasn't always possible during difficult times like these for businesses," he said.

"I heard he wasn't well and I sent him a message and the family replied and not Jingles himself. They informed me that Jingles was not well and that he needed peace and quietness and didn't allow visitors. I then realised how serious it was and that was about a week ago. He happened to pass on late last night," concluded Stylianou.

Soccer Laduma sends heartfelt condolences to Pereira's family and friends and everyone affected by this loss.
