With Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane still a hot topic in the fraternity after another disappointing season without a trophy for the club, an experienced South African football coach has offered advice.
As Amakhosi finished the 2022/23 season 5th on the DStv Premiership log, Zwane led the Soweto giants to 11 league defeats, which is a record number of losses for the club in a single season since the inception of the PSL era in 1996.

Zwane, however to his credit, did manage to complete a league double over perennial rivals Orlando Pirates to put smiles on the faces of the multitudes of the team's supporters, while also writing his name in the history books by achieving that feat.
There have been different opinions from pundits and fans alike on whether Zwane is still suitable to continue at the helm as Chiefs coach going into the 2023/24 season, but four-time league winning coach Gordon Igesund believes he should be retained although he and his technical team might need assistance from an experienced coach in an advisory role.
"You know what, you're asking me a question now that I don't want to just talk about. You know, I don't want to just talk about coaches on what they have and haven't done. I like Zwane very much. He's a very young coach, he's still growing and he's still got to learn. He's got a lot of young players there that he's helping to grow," said Igesund.

"But I can't comment on how he has done. I don't think he's had a great season but I don't think he's had a terrible season. He's still a young coach who needs to know how to handle certain situations and he will learn those. You must remember that there is no substitute for experience. He's got good commitment and good understanding of the game but there's a lot of work that he's got to do. So, I say he needs to be supported. Maybe what Chiefs should really do is to get somebody very experienced as a mentor for these guys. There are a lot of coaches around that can offer that role. At the end of the day, they just have to pick themselves up now and prepare for the new season," the experienced mentor added.
