‘Boss Ya Mboka Is Here To Stay’

In the continuation of Willard Katsande's exclusive chat with Fan Park, the baller gets into more detail about Boss Ya Mboka's success and the future of the brand. Check it out!

What's the story?

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Zimbabwe international midfielder Willard Katsande recently sat down with Soccer Laduma to speak on his fast-growing brand, Boss Ya Mbok.

Katsande revealed more details on the creative journey he's taken with his wife and where he sees Boss Ya Mboka in the future.

Let's take a closer look...

Katsande Boss Ya Mboka Part 2

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United midfielder star Willard Katsande had more to reveal on his fashion venture Boss Ya Mboka (BYM).

As previously mentioned in Part 1, Katsande is not alone in the BYM project, his wife Bonga Katsande, who has a Fashion Design qualification also forms part of the brains behind the operation.

The brand is not inspired by other more established fashion labels, it's simply down to the creative minds of Mr Mrs Katsande, who, at times, but heads in the creative direction for BYM.

"If I get it right or wrong, that's the learning curve - my wife has a fashion degree and she's a designer so we argue here and there. We fight in terms of what exactly we need to put out there [for BYM's items]," says Katsande who added:

"Now that people have accepted us, the most important thing is consistency on how we're going to design everything."

In terms of working with his significant other, Katsande says they both enjoy working with other people to see how they can grow the brand.

"Boss Ya Mboka is here to stay and if people want us to adjust 'A,B,C or D' then we're open for discussion and we're open to helping others to achieve their dreams and we're flexible enough to be taken to another level," he says.

With Boss Ya Mboka still in its formative years as a brand, Katsande is eager to progress it further alongside his partner every day:

"The most important thing is that we continue to grow and learn from every moment and every day is a learning day," says Katsande.

As shown in a host of their designs this year of national flags being incorporated onto their logo, BYM want a borderless brand that offers something for people in Zimbabwe, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other nations.

In terms of where he sees BYM in the next five years, the former Glamour Boy wants the brand's items on the shelves of multiple African countries, to build on their South African and Zimbabwean base.

"I want it to be in the shelves of many cities in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi, Lesotho, and Swaziland. I'm working very very hard to get that breakthrough," says the ambitious Katsande.

Regardless of what happens in the future, BYM is constantly coming up with new innovative ways to level up the brand.

A new Boss Ya Mboka perfume was revealed by Katsande on IG, where he jokingly mentions that using their perfume will give you the ability to fly:

BYM prides itself on being a people's brand and the ex-Baller goes as far as personally delivering the merch to customers if they stay close to him in Johannesburg.

Katsande going the extra mile for his customers allows the process of their purchase to be a lot more seamless and personable, which is ideal in his efforts to build on BYM's core fanbase.

"The most important thing that Boss Ya Mboka offers is that we engage with people. We want to hear their feedback and the noise because without that, we would still be trying to cook something in the kitchen," concludes Katsande, who hopes for Sekhukhune United to overcome the Buccaneers in this weekend's Nedbank Cup final.
