The Path: Bongokuhle Hlongwane

Through his goofy celebration, contagious laugh and cheerful manner, Hlongwane has won the hearts of the Minnesota United fans since leaving the DStv Premiership in 2021.

The club followed the 22-year-old's his parents to trace his journey from Pietermaritzburg to Minnesota in a short film titled, 'The Path: Bongokuhle Hlongwane' shared on the club's social media platforms.

With two goals in ten league games this season, Hlongwane is one of Minnesota United's key men as they push for more consistent results in the MLS Western Conference to qualify for the playoffs.

Hlongwane mentioned that he started playing football at the age of six, and started to take the game more seriously when he started playing for local teams and at school.

His mother, Shelly Bhengu, says he got better with age during his development and started to impress for local senior team Nxamalala FC before moving to Maritzburg United.
