Sekhukhune United are yet to trigger their option on midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo, who initially signed a short-term deal in January.
According to Siya sources, there's no official deadline to when Babina Noko can exercise the clause to hold on to the Bafana Bafana international for another year, especially after his obvious contribution since joining.
But insiders close to the player and at the club have indicated that the 32-year-old has received enquiries for his services locally.
Mokotjo returned to the Premier Soccer League more than a decade since he left for Europe after the transfer from SuperSport United to Feyenoord in 2009 and later played for high-profile clubs like FC Twente, Brentford and FC Cincinnati.
Reports linked him with interest from Kaizer Chiefs, who turned down an offer to sign Mokotjo as replacement for Njabulo Blom after the latter was sold to USA outfit St Louis City.
Sekhukhune then snapped him up quickly, announcing a contract that stretches until June 2024, but without clarifying that there was an option to take up the extra year.
Indications are that Mokotjo is keen to stay on, but will not wait forever, especially considering his performances have led to interest elsewhere, according to sources.
Babina Noko will face Orlando Pirates in the final of the Nedbank Cup on May 27, another big stage for the experienced player to prove his worth.
The Siya crew has reported before that the midfielder is one of the highest earners at the club, and they hold his fate as things stand…. well, at least until July 1.
