Saudi Authorities Make Decision On CR7 'Expulsion'

Saudi Authorities Make Decision On CR7 'Expulsion'

The Saudi football authorities have made a decision on Cristiano Ronaldo's future in the league after there were calls for him to be expelled from the country's top flight.

The Portugal international suffered yet another setback in his ambitions to lead Al Nassr to this season's league title after their 2-0 loss to Al Hilal on Tuesday.

Ronaldo and his teammates thus remain three points behind log leaders Al Ittihad, having played a game more than their fellow championship chasers.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was perhaps lucky to walk away with a yellow card after the foul he committed in the 57th minute of the match, with the Knights of Najd ultimately going a second successive game without a win.

After the final whistle of that game, opposition supporters taunted Ronaldo with Messi chants, and the forward was seen grabbing his genitals in reaction to the noise from the stands.

With his gesture considered to be indecent in the Gulf state, there was a large outcry from the public as a result, with there being calls for Ronaldo to be expelled from the league, but the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Association has decided there is no need to take any further action on the Madeira native, as per Goal.

Al Nassr did, however, receive a Saudi riyal 15 000 (about R73 000) fine after their players arrived late for the second half of their most recent game.

The Saudi giants will be looking to get their title charge back on track when they take on mid-table Al Raed in their next league match next Friday.
