Man Utd Make U-Turn On 'Ronaldo Rule'

Man Utd Make U-Turn On 'Ronaldo Rule'

English giants Manchester United have reportedly made a U-turn on a rule they came up with following Cristiano Ronaldo's free-agent departure in November.

Four Man Utd Stars Ronaldo Invited To Watch Him Play Revealed?

In the weeks that followed the 37-year-old's switch to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, it was reported that the Red Devils were toying with the idea of introducing a salary cap to the first team.

It was said that United wanted to prevent certain players from earning drastically more than their teammates, a reality that could create issues and lead to a divide in the dressing room.

Ronaldo was believed to be earning around £400 000 (R8.5 million) a week at Old Trafford, with the club previously tempted to cap first-team salaries at £200 000 (R4.2 million) a week.

That, however, would not have helped the 20-time English champions in negotiations with 25-year-old winger Marcus Rashford, who is understood to be in contract talks with United amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

United have reportedly decided to give themselves the best chance of hanging on to their best players by scrapping the salary cap idea, while still perhaps believing Ronaldo was earning too much for his age.

Furthermore, Rashford is currently being paid a wage that is around the would-be salary cap, meaning it might have been difficult to convince him to remain at Old Trafford without a significant increase.

Al Nassr Head Coach Expects Ronaldo Exit

The Englishman is considered to be in career-best form, having scored an impressive 10 goals since club football resumed after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
