Zungu: We Have Zwane At Chiefs, Rulani At Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu has commented on the importance of having African coaches in charge of the five representatives of the continent at the FIFA World Cup, as he linked it to the likes of Arthur Zwane and Rulani Mokwena in the PSL.

There's usually a belief that countries or clubs who choose local coaches are at an advantage because of how well the individuals know the players and culture. This is how Zungu feels as well, as he described what having a local coach can do for players.

In fact, throughout his playing career, be it club or international level, Zungu has worked with local coaches. At Sundowns, before leaving for Europe, he worked with Pitso Mosimane. For the national team, he has been coached by Shakes Mashaba and Molefi Ntseki.

"I think that's good. Just like talent in Africa and we have coaches that are doing well. We have Arthur Zwane at Chiefs which is great. We have Rulani at Sundowns, which is great, and other (coaches). It's great because those coaches understand the players better. For example, I am talking about personal things that people go through in life. If I go through something, I can be able to talk to someone that understands me or understands the culture. It's good for African football, in my opinion," Zungu said.
