Key Decisions For Rulani During World Cup Break

Key Decisions For Rulani During World Cup Break

As Mamelodi Sundowns sit comfortably at the top of the DStv Premiership standings, there are some key decisions head coach Rulani Mokwena will need to make during the break and the coming months.

Sundowns are determined to secure another title, with Mokwena having an opportunity to win it as the sole man in charge of the side. It will be an interesting few weeks and months ahead as the coach has some decisions to make on a few things in the squad.

A striker in January?

It is understood that the club could look at acquiring the services of a striker, to ensure there are more options when Peter Shalulile and Abbubeker Nasir are not available, as has been the case in recent weeks. While Thabiso Kutumela and Gift Motupa are options, Mokwena could still look at going into the market in January.

Will Ralani stay?

Mokwena will have a big say in what happens next with Surprise Ralani. The former Cape Town City player will see his contract with Sundowns come to an end in June 2023, but the coach could give the player more opportunities to impress in the team after he struggled to break into the side this season before changes were made in the technical team.

What next for Kapinga?

With the January transfer window coming up, the coach is set to make a decision on the future of Lesedi Kapinga, who could be given an opportunity to go out on loan to get more game-time. Kapinga was brought in at Sundowns before Pitso Mosimane and has not been able to feature regularly, especially with the club constantly signing so much quality in attack.

Where does Zungu fit in?

In the recent matches Mokwena has been in charge of, the midfield partnership of Mothobi Mvala, Teboho Mokoena and Haashim Domingo has been used. Zungu has been working his way back to full fitness and it will be interesting to see if the experienced campaigner will command a regular place in the team.
