Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly told Cristiano Ronaldo what he needs to do in order to return to the Red Devils' first-team squad after he was dropped for Saturday's clash against Chelsea.
Man Utd Legend: Ronaldo Should Be Treated Differently To Other Players
According to the Daily Mirror, the Dutchman is set to hold talks with the 37-year-old over his restoration to the side following last week's controversial events.
During a midweek league match against Tottenham Hotspur, Ronaldo stormed down the tunnel after refusing to be brought on as a substitute late on in the game, before reportedly leaving the stadium prior to the final whistle.
As a result, he was dropped from the United squad that held Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on the weekend, with Ten Hag insisting that principles and values will be integral to the team's long-term success.
It is claimed the Dutchman wants to see genuine regret from Ronaldo before he is reintegrated into the side, after an apology was absent in the statement the forward put out after it was confirmed he would miss the trip to Chelsea.
In an Instagram post, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had admitted that the heat of the moment had got to him, but stopped short of formally apologising to his teammates and fans.
Ronaldo's situation has caused a divide among supporters and ex-United players, with Roy Keane having leapt to the defence of his former colleague, while Gary Neville has stated that he believes the team is not stronger with the ex-Real Madrid talisman in it.
Man Utd Linked With Surprise Swap Deal For Ronaldo
The Portugal captain has since been linked with a move away from Old Trafford as early as January, although, just as in the previous transfer window, it remains to be seen whether or not concrete offers will arrive.
