Having started the season in fine form, one of Arsenal's brightest young stars has now insisted he wants to stay at the club beyond his current deal.
Arsenal Sink Liverpool To Reclaim Top Spot
Forward Gabriel Martinelli has confirmed that he wishes to extend his contract with the Gunners, and revealed that he and his representatives are in talks with the club over an extension.
The Brazil international has been one of the best attackers of the 2022/23 Premier League season so far, and highlighted his quality once again with a dazzling performance over the previous campaign's runners-up Liverpool on Sunday.
Speaking to The Athletic, the 21-year-old expressed his desire to continue his time in north London.
"Of course, I want to stay. We are talking. Let's see what is going to happen," he said.
"But I want to stay, of course. I think it's my best season here at Arsenal.
"I'm so happy for this moment."
The winger's current deal at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire at the end of next season, but it is understood the club's hierarchy feel his recent performances deserve rewarding.
The Brazilian has been directly involved in 10 goals in his past 14 appearances in the Premier League, and appears to have formed an effective partnership with compatriot Gabriel Jesus and fellow winger Bukayo Saka.
"We have a lot of time to improve, and I think we have great quality, and I think we can do more," Martinelli added.
"It's amazing to play alongside them and I am so happy to have the opportunity to play with them.
"I think Arsenal is a big club and we have a lot of good players."
