In an apparent bid to stop Erling Haaland from joining Real Madrid in 2024, Manchester City have reportedly devised a plan to keep the Norway international in England for a while longer.
Pep Explains What Separates Haaland Messi
Although it has been just a few months since the 22-year-old joined the Premier League champions, there appears to be a feeling the forward could end up at Los Blancos in just a couple years' time.
Haaland committed to a five-year contract in England when he signed for the Citizens, but rumours suggest that the striker's deal includes a €180 million (R3.1 billion) release clause that will become active in 2024.
It is thought that the ex-Borussia Dortmund man wants to be able to remain flexible even after signing long-term deals, with his father recently suggesting his son could spend his career as bit of a journeyman.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Real intend to move for Haaland when his buyout clause comes into play after missing out on his signature in the previous transfer window.
Following Kylian Mbappe's decision to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain, the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners turned to Haaland, but it was the player's decision to accept Pep Guardiola's proposal.
For now, it seems Haaland's choice has paid off, with the 23-time Norway international having scored an incredible 17 goals in just 11 appearances across all competitions since the campaign got underway.
City are said to now be planning to offer the former Bundesliga talisman a new deal to ensure he remains at the club beyond 2027, and to avoid losing him to Real in the coming seasons. The Citizens are also reportedly hoping to remove the release clause from the terms of his contract.
