'Plan For Man Utd Takeover Moving Forward'

A prospective new owner has stated that his plan to remove the Glazers as Manchester United's owners is moving forward.

Tensions between the Red Devils' fanbase and the Glazer family have existed since the Americans took over the club back in 2005, and following legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013, the relationship between them has only got worse.

This season, supporters' restlessness with the owners has only continued as they have made it clear, with multiple protests, that they want to see a change in the club's hierarchy as soon as possible.

Someone who shares the fans' sentiments is Michael Knighton, who served on United's board of directors after being involved in a failed takeover of the team in 1989.

It emerged last month that the 70-year-old is looking to buy the Red Devils, and according to the Englishman, everything is progressing nicely.

"Thank you ALL for the wonderful messages of support. There is much going on behind the scenes," he wrote on Twitter.

"Things are moving forward as planned. I apologise I can't be on this platform more, just bogged down in meetings.

"God bless every good wish to all of you. Yr (sic) support is greatly appreciated."

If Knighton's hostile takeover is to be successful, it is understood that it will not be an immediate procurement, with the Glazers firm in their stance not to sell.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the current regime at Old Trafford would be willing to sell for an estimated £3.75 billion (R74.5 billion).

Knighton, who is said to have the backing of Britain's wealthiest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is yet to submit a formal offer at this moment in time, however.
