As things stand, Mokwena's Wydad side are in fourth place on the league table, equal in points with third-placed FUS Rabat and just two points behind AS FAR in second. FUS Rabat lead Wydad on goal difference.
While the dream of winning the league has largely faded with runaway leaders RS Berkane securing the title with five games to spare, Mokwena's focus remains on securing a spot in Africa's premier club competition, the CAF Champions League, for next season.
Talal confirmed that Mokwena's goals for the season were clear from the outset. "Achieving first or second place is essential, and failing to do so will lead to him leaving Wydad," he said.
With just five games left in the season, the pressure is on Mokwena to ensure his side finishes in one of the coveted top two spots, which are required for CAF Champions League qualification.
Wydad's 2023/24 season has been a mixed bag, with the team finishing in fifth place in the Moroccan league, which saw them miss out on qualification for Africa's elite competition.
Now, Mokwena's fate hinges on whether he can guide the team to a top-two finish and ensure their return to the CAF Champions League next season.
