Why Pirates Coach Should Be Commended For Preserving Kasi Flavour

Why Pirates Coach Should Be Commended For Preserving Kasi Flavour

South African football should not necessarily copy everything in the modern game, according to suggestions by dribbling ace, Orlando Pirates attacker Patrick Maswanganyi.

Maswanganyi has been criticized for showboating even when it's not necessary, with one camp of experts and football fans slamming his antics on the ball and another camp praising it.

With the so-called modern football influencing the game around the world, the skill factor and individual brilliance has been discouraged by many coaches in the PSL.

However, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is one of the few, although foreign, to embrace what 'Tito' brings to his team whenever he is showboating.

Even the Buccaneers legend Jomo Sono criticized the 26-year-old's tendency to stand on the ball and make backward passes.

"I have different styles of playing, I can play without showboating (but) I feel like when I dribble, it gets me into the game and sometimes it helps my teammates as as well to get into the game," Maswanganyi explained why he likes to dribble, speaking on the latest episode of Bucs Camp', a documentary series by the club.

"The coach also, if I don't dribble he feels like I don't want to play. Most of the time when I listen to people outside saying, 'Ah Tito doesn't pass in time and all that but I known what I'm doing.

"Because the coach understands and knows what I'm trying to achieve. My teammates also understands, because sometimes they tell me, 'Bra, you're quiet, you must do something!' So most of the times I do those things for the team," the Bafana Bafana midfielder added.

The flair in South American players is what makes them the most sought after players in the world.

Riveiro embracing the rare qualities of 'Tito' should be commended, as South African football cannot afford lose the 'kasi flavour', as players feel more comfortable and are more effective expressing themselves.
