Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has discussed whether talented 19-year-old winger Relebohile Mafokeng should receive a Bafana Bafana call-up for the upcoming 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

The teenage sensation has had a good season so far with the Buccaneers, with some calling for Hugo Broos to take a chance on the young talent.

Mafokeng, who recently went on trial at English Premier League side Wolves, has impressed with his link-up play and could add a different dynamics going forward at next year's AFCON.

Riveiro appreciates how talented Mafokeng is, but appeared to suggest the winger still needs to improve many aspects of his game. The Spaniard did mention that the young baller won't disappoint once he gets his chance in the national team.

Here's how the readers reacted to the "Riveiro: There Is Only One Doubt About Mafokeng"  story:

"I like what was once said by Mduduzi Shabalala of Kaizer Chiefs, that at 19, he is no longer a youngster. Therefore, we should stop this obsession with youngsters at 19, 20, 21. Spain had a 16-year-old at the World Cup, there was no fuss about him being a youngster," says Manephilly.

"Coach in SA you play for the national team at age 26 upwards. When you turn 30 the media kicks you out . Bennie McCarthy was good but the national team coaches didn't want to call him because of his age. Its only mjomane and shakes who have been giving this youngsters a chance to play in the national team without fear of media and agents interference. When hugo broos took over he stressed the use of youthful squad but quickly changed. Reason we don't know. The media and agents got the better of him," says oupa.phiri27.

With Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos set to announce his preliminary squad for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations next week, there will be concerns over the fitness of two Mamelodi Sundowns players, Aubrey Modiba and Mothobi Mvala.

Broos already has a limited time frame to prepare for the tournament, with Bafana planning on going into camp on 1 January.

Mvala and Modiba both sustained injuries while in camp with national team last month in Rwanda and haven't featured for Masandawana since.

Indications are that Broos could include both players in the preliminary squad before a final decision is made on who will represent Bafana at the competition in Ivory Coast.

Here's how the readers reacted to the "Concern For Broos With Sundowns Duo" story:

"Like really now? Mvala and Modiba? Who gets worried by their unavailability? We have so many players in this country," says Rio Da Khosi.

"Name one player from Chiefs who can replace either?" replies Shikabala.

"He must leave those players and call Msimango or Njabulo Ngcobo. Sundowns players have better things to do than playing for Bafana Bafana,"  says Saavedra.

"Nothing to worry about Broos, there are plenty of players to choose from, especially at Chiefs," says makausemakause53.

"Choose the Chiefs players because they are winning cups," jokes Chupe deSAMBA.

"He must choose Khune to captain them and leave Ronwen Williams at home," says Saavedra.
