Soccer Laduma sub-editor Lunga Adam took over the Editor's Column this week, and penned an emotional article regarding the murder of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain, Senzo "Nzori" Meyiwa.
Meyiwa was brutally killed on 26 October 2014. It was reported to have been a case of a robbery that went wrong, claiming the life of Nzori. Almost four years later, since the untimely death of the slain goalkeeper, no arrests have been made.
The motivation behind Lunga's decision to write the emotional piece is the latest unveiling on Senzo's tragic death. A Twitter account, under a false name, struck on Sunday, detailing what is alleged to have occurred on that fateful evening under the hashtag #JusticeForSenzoMeyiwa, which has been trending since.
Reading Lunga's piece, one could tell it was written with raw emotions, and understandably so as supporters and the country as a whole seek answers and closure. What's most painful about this whole thing is that there are possibly those with answers who are protecting the real killer.
Truly heartbreaking, opening up old wounds. What makes it worse is the pain and cries of not only Meyiwa's family, but the nation as a whole. It is quite clear that we loved and adored Meyiwa, yet four years later, justice has not been served. Everything regarding his murder is being taken lightly. It is painful because we lost a national treasure. The moron who killed him robbed and deprived us of Senzo's talent. More so because his career had started to blossom at the time of his untimely death. What makes it even worse is how everyone who was present in that house is comfortable with protecting the person who pulled the trigger. Too sad.
