SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has highlighted the difference between current and past generations of footballers and how they are motivated.

Hunt made headlines recently when it was revealed that he not only has a completely different persona with his players than he does with the media - but he uses interesting methods of motivation for some of his younger players.
Thulani Hlatshwayo detailed how Hunt recently made a bet with the club's budding superstar Shandre Campbell that saw the 18-year-old score R1000 from Hunt.
But the 59-year-old believes that young players should not be motivated by money - especially with the exorbitant amounts earned by players these days, as compared to yesteryear.
"I'm a big one on this. I think if I have to motivate football players who get paid to get played, I think then I'm in the wrong job. I think we shouldn't be motivating football players. It should be a self-inner motivation. When you're playing sport at the highest level and you are playing for a living, it shouldn't be a somebody with a stick with a motivation. Obviously we need to say things and do things, but there's gotta be that self-inner motivation. And I think if you look at a lot of the young players, they've got that," Hunt told journalists at a Nedbank Cup press conference.
"I think they've got it, but it's about switching it on, switching it off. You know what I'm saying? Every game don't go down, go up and that's important because you know, you'll see, especially in South Africa, there's a lot of teams that, you know, play certainly above their level in the cup and not so well in the league. There's a lot of teams who do that, and cup competitions always proves that why they're not doing the same in the league. You know, I mean there's teams that made this final that got relegated. I think maybe this happened once or twice. [Marumo] Gallants, they made the final one year - two years ago. I think these type of things are what the youth lack because the world is changing all the time and we as coaches have to change. If I don't change, I'm gonna get left behind. So I've had to evolve myself, you know what I mean? We need to evolve with the young players and there is different motivation that does motivate them differently, you know, and I don't think money is one of them. Now, in my day for 50 grand (rands) my grandmother was in trouble, I'd kick her that's for sure. So yeah. motivation is definitely different now," he continued.
