Sundowns extended their winning streak to eight matches in the league after beating Swallows 2-0 on Tuesday evening, with Neo Maema and Themba Zwane finding the back of the net.
The Brazilians have only conceded once in that run of eight consecutive victories and are seven points clear at the top of the table.
Richards Bay, almost similarly, are in good form, as their 1-0 win against the Birds last weekend, following the FIFA World Cup break, extended their unbeaten run to nine matches.
The Natal Rich Boyz, as a result, are lying third on the standings, eight points behind Sundowns ahead of their first-ever meeting in the top flight.
The Brazilians thrashed Bay 4-0 in the Nedbank round of 32 last season while the KwaZulu-Natal side were still campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
