Cardoso started his reign with a 1-0 win over Raja Casablanca before claiming his first league win after defeating Stellenbosch in Cape Town three days later.
The win over Stellenbosch saw the Brazilians move three points clear of second-place Orlando Pirates, who are also in action this afternoon against Marumo Gallants.
Sundowns will come up against an AmaZulu side who have been rejuvenated under co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi.
Usuthu have won three of their last five league encounters, the last of which was a 2-1 victory over KwaZulu-Natal rivals AmaZulu.
There could be a few more eyes on today's contest, especially since Usuthu signed former Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu on a free transfer last week.
