Orlando Pirates new striker ruled out through injury

Orlando Pirates new striker ruled out through injury

Orlando Pirates have suffered an injury setback two days before the start of their campaign with one of the club's star signings ruled out through injury, the Siya crew has been told.

Pirates will get their 2022/23 DStv Premiership season underway against Swallows FC this weekend, however, they will have to do so without striker Evidence Makgopa.

The 22-year-old was among six new players brought in by the Buccaneers to reinforce coach Jose Riveiro's team, with high expectations for the lanky Bafana Bafana striker in the famous black and white.

However, Siya sources have informed the crew that Makgopa suffered an ankle injury in training and could be ruled out for up to six weeks, but the club is hoping that his spell on the sidelines is shorter.

With Makgopa certain to miss out on Bucs' opener, it could mean that fellow new signing Eva Nga could lead the line for Pirates. The Cameroonian striker has been impressive for Pirates in pre-season and looks likely to start on Saturday.

The clash gets underway on Saturday at 15:00.
