EA gave us our very first look at FIFA 21 at its EA Play Live 2020 event on Thursday night. For those of you who managed to stay up till 1 am (South African time) early Friday morning, you'll have seen a collaborative trailer for the new FIFA game as well as the new Madden game.
We've watched the trailer about 30 times already pouring over every detail.

Electronic Arts dropped a heap of new game announcements, but our eyes were all over the FIFA 21 details. This year, FIFA fans can unlock a host of innovations powered by the new generation of consoles – the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Enhanced lighting and rendering technology promise us the most realistic football game in history and with the new SSD drives the load times for games (easily the worst part for gamers currently) will be a thing of the past.
First Glimpse At The New PlayStation 5
FIFA 21 will launch worldwide on October 9 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and Origin – and eventually Google Stadia. While South African players won't have access to Stadia as we don't have servers locally, it's great to see some big titles like FIFA embracing the new streaming technology.
If you are an EA Access and Origin Access Basic member you will be able to get trial access to the game on October 1 and Origin Access Premier members will have full access to the game on the same day – if ever there was an incentive to get Origin Access Premier membership it's now. Premier members will also continue to receive on-going benefits in FIFA throughout the season.
The game is available for pre-order already with various bonuses and incentives available.
Great news for those wondering whether to get FIFA 21 on launch or wait for the new PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X version, FIFA 21 will offer "dual entitlement" – meaning players can upgrade their copy from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X at no extra cost. The only exception is that physical discs can't be upgraded to discless consoles.
