Ian Frazier, Creative Director of Motive Studios said "We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favourite starfighter. Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we've been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship".
In Star Wars: Squadrons, players will enlist as rookie pilots of either the New Republic or the Imperial fleets and will get to step into the cockpits of some of the most iconic starfighters in the Star Wars universe. Pilots will plan skirmishes with their squadron in the briefing room before taking off for battle. In Fleet Battle mode, players will engage in 5v5 battles with the goal of destroying the opposing team's flagship and in Dogfight mode which is presumably similar to team deathmatch, players will work with their team to try destroy as many enemies as possible.
The new Star Wars title promises heaps of cosmetic and gameplay customization options with rewards and bonuses earner through gameplay, so no more "pay-to-win" elements which have hampered previous games. As players rank up they'll unlock items such as new weapons, engines and shields to improve their ships capabilities as well as purely cosmetic items to personalise their ship and their pilot's appearance.
Star Wars: Squadrons will also feature a full single-player campaign following events such as the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the Death Star II. The story will switch between perspectives of pilots on either side of the conflict, one serving in the New Republic's Vanguard Squadron and the other in the Galactic Empire's Titan Squadron. The story will feature many new characters as well as cameos from some of Star War's most iconic characters.
Star Wars: Squadrons launches 2 October 2020 and pre-orders are open.
