What New Look Chiefs Could Look Like

What New Look Chiefs Could Look Like

With Kaizer Chiefs expected to make changes yet again to rebuild the side, Soccer Laduma looks at which areas Amakhosi management is set to make adjustments in an effort to strengthen the team.

Amakhosi are guaranteed to finish a ninth year without a trophy in the cabinet and they are in danger of making it 10 if they do not get their house in order next term. As things stand, the club is working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure they have new faces in place, in different departments, to inspire the team to success.

Chiefs are not new to rebuilding phases season in and out and they have not worked in the past. All eyes will be on the family to make the correct decisions to get the club back to its glory days.

New technical team

Amakhosi are definitely going to be making changes to the technical team and it's not only a new coach that will be coming. Indications are that a new coach could come in with a new technical team, but chances are that a new goalkeeper coach could be introduced to replace Aubrey Mathibe, who has been working with strategic advisor Rainer Dinkelacker. Dillon Sheppard is likely to stay on in the technical team, but could serve as second assistant if the new coach brings his own right-hand man. It's understood that Chiefs are open to a new coach bringing in a few new people to ensure he has the right men working with him.

Goalkeeper search is on

One of the big worries at Amakhosi at the moment is the goalkeeping department and the Siya crew has been informed that the search has been on for a goalkeeper to come in next season, one who is good enough to take the number one spot from the word go. Itumeleng Khune is expected to call it at a day at the end of the season and Amakhosi are considering their options in the market. Stanley Nwabali appears to have been scratched off the list as a possible signing, due to his incredible rise in value after the Africa Cup of Nations, so Amakhosi are believed to have identified Richards Bay shot-stopper Salim Magoola as an option, with AmaZulu's Veli Mothwa not being ruled out.

The hunt for the perfect striker

High on the list of priorities at Amakhosi is a striker. Indications are that Stellenbosch FC striker Iqraam Rayners is high on their list, with the acquisition of Khanyisa Mayo at Cape Town City proving to be a difficult one, with a huge transfer fee placed on him by chairman John Comitis.

Letting players go

Chiefs are set to let go of a few players to make room for new faces next season. Indications are that the likes of Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyethemba Sithebe, Sifiso Hlanti and George Matlou could be released, while there could be loan moves for Samkelo Zwane and Sabelo Radebe who are likely to go out on loan. Jasond Gonzalez is set to leave when his loan deal expires at the end of the season, while the likes of Tebogo Potsane and Ranga Chivaviro have uncertain futures.
