No Panic In Botswana Over Chiefs Defender

No Panic In Botswana Over Chiefs Defender

The Siya crew has been given some insight into the feelings in Botswana over their national team captain not getting game time at Kaizer Chiefs.

Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has not made a competitive appearance for Amakhosi this season since head coach Nasreddine Nabi took over and was previously linked with a move away from the club.

Despite not featuring for Chiefs, Ditlhokwe remains a key member of Botswana's national team and their good form recently in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers has not given them any reason to panic over their top defender's lack of game time at Naturena.

"To be honest, there has not been a lot of talk about that yet. Obviously, in certain quaters, the topic has been discussed, but not in depth. This is helped by the fact that in the last international break, the national team managed to win back-to-back games, and they put us in a good position to qualify for AFCON," a source

"Winning those games has masked that issue, but the abrupt departure of the national team coach has also been a topic, so there has not been a lot of focus on Ditlhokwe not playing. I think people might start talking around December, just before the January transfer window opens, to see if he will be able to get a move."

The Siya crew understands that there is a good chance of Ditlhokwe moving away from Naturena in January, with a loan move being an option for the former SuperSport United man.

Ditlhokwe is part of a list of players who have an uncertain future at Naturena. That list includes the likes of Mduduzi Mdantsane and Tebogo Potsane.
