Former Bafana Bafana star Steven Pienaar's camp are on the lookout for a new challenge following his exit from Ajax Amsterdam. Just like his appointment at the club, the ex-Everton attacker's exit came with very little fanfare.
He served as the U18 assistant coach under Dave De Vos, after initially starting an internship with Ajax while pursuing his coaching badges in 2021. While he worked alongside De Vos, the Westbury-born man managed to become one of a handful of South Africans to bag a UEFA Pro Licence qualification – the highest in world football.
The Siya crew understands that Pienaar's new accomplishment meant that he was eager to climb the ranks at his boyhood club. However, the Dutch giants were unable to offer the 41-year-old anything beyond the role he was occupying, which led to his exit from the club.
Indications from sources are that Pienaar's camp, led by veteran agent Rob Moore, are on the lookout for a new challenge for the former Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Borussia Dortmund player.
Having placed another of their clients in Benni McCarthy at Manchester United, Pienaar's camp are understood to be looking for something similar for the 61-time Bafana Bafana-capped former midfielder, with their sights set on the 2023/24 campaign.
