Former Swallows FC goalkeeper Sanele Tshabalala was recently spotted at Chloorkop, training with Mamelodi Sundowns. The 25-year-old parted ways with the Dube Birds at the end of last season and has been on the lookout for a new club since.
Last week, ahead of the Brazilians' massive league match against Orlando Pirates, Tshabalala was at the defending champions' training base. The CAF Champions League participants have a lot of competition in the goalkeeping department, with Ronwen Williams, Denis Onyango, Reyaad Pieterse and Jody February available as options for head coach Rhulani Mokwena.
As revealed elsewhere in this week's Siyagobhoza, there is also Ricardo Goss, who is out on loan at rivals SuperSport United but could make his way back to Downs at the end of the season. Having so many goalkeepers in the team makes Tshabalala's chances of signing a deal with the Tshwane giants a difficult one, but with Onyango heading closer to the end of his playing career, it cannot be completely ruled out at this stage.
The former national U20 goalkeeper struggled for game time at Swallows last season, making just three appearances as the coach preferred to use either Thakasani Mbanjwa or Daniel Akpeyi between the sticks, with the latter having teamed up with the Dobsonville-based outfit in January.
