DStv Premiership clubs are believed to be monitoring striker Zakhele Lepasa's situation at Orlando Pirates after the club blocked his potential move to Europe earlier this month. The Siya crew reported last week that the Bafana Bafana attacker had attracted interest abroad, with coach Stuart Baxter later confirming to SABC Sport he wanted Lepasa at Helsingborgs IF on a short-term deal.
"I watched him for a while and noticed he wasn't in the frame at Pirates. My thoughts was that we can't afford to buy him outright. A loan move at a well-known club in Europe with the potential to then fight for promotion back to the topflight may suit Pirates to let him be in the [shop] window. To be fair, I think they considered it," the ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana coach explained.
Baxter all but confirmed the potential deal was off the table for Lepasa, who spent the last six months of the 2022/23 season on loan at SuperSport United and working closely with Gavin Hunt. According to Siya sources, there remains a possibility the forward could still move and play elsewhere during the upcoming campaign. With competition for places at Pirates quite stiff considering the number of strikers on their books, Lepasa might find it hard to break into the starting line-up.
The player is eager to make the national team squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year, but if he is not playing, coach Hugo Broos could leave him out – so, there are several clubs watching how this all unfolds.
If he can't go to Europe, where would you like to see Lepasa playing next season?
