Portuguese Coach In SA Amid Sundowns Talk!

Portuguese Coach In SA Amid Sundowns Talk!

A Portuguese coach is understood to be in South Africa amid talks of a possible move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Earlier today, as reported on Soccer Laduma, there could be an announcement of a new coach at the defending champions. Manqoba Mngqithi has been under added pressure in his role as the club's head coach due to results that have been coming in dribs and drabs.

The Brazilians are expected to announce changes in their technical announce in a press conference scheduled for midday at the club's headquarters in Chloorkop.

According to sources privy to the latest developments at the club, Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso could be the new man in charge although an official announcement will be made later on to reveal the coach's identity.

"Miguel Cardoso is in the country and is one of the coaches that Sundowns has been talking to. If he gets announced, expect him to have his own technical team that could include Fabio Fernandes and Joao Araujo, among others," said the source.

In recent weeks, Bafana Bafana's all-time top goal scorer Benni McCarthy has been one of the coaches linked with Downs' role.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

Meanwhile, Siya sources close to Chloorkop have since indicated that on his way out, Mngqithi could be joined by Romain Folz who has been his assistant, as well as Wendell Robinson who has been the goalkeeper trainer.

Steve Komphela who re-joined the former African champions in July is likely to stay and could be the second assistant coach in the new-look technical team.
