Pirates Eye Succession Plan Amid Saleng’s Absence?

Pirates Eye Succession Plan Amid Saleng’s Absence?

Orlando Pirates appear to be laying the groundwork for life without Monnapule Saleng, who has been noticeably absent from the team's lineups for almost three months.

The winger last featured in December 2024 during a CAF Champions League match against Al Ahly at Orlando Stadium.

Speculation has surrounded Saleng's absence, with reports hinting at a failed overseas move and contractual disagreements with the club.

However, his representatives from P Management Sports have clarified that the matter pertains to an employer-employee relationship issue that requires resolution.

They further affirmed that Saleng remains committed to addressing the situation through legal and professional avenues.

Amid this uncertainty, Pirates are understood to have turned their attention to securing the services of Kabelo Kgositsile, an exciting winger from Baroka FC.

The 21-year-old left-footed attacker has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in South African football, impressing with his consistent performances and goalscoring ability in the second-tier league.

His standout display in the Nedbank Cup last-16 clash against Pirates, despite Baroka's 3-1 loss, has only strengthened his appeal.

While Pirates are leading the chase for Kgositsile, they face stiff competition from Stellenbosch FC and Chippa United, according to sources.

However, the Soweto giants are optimistic about adding him to Jose Riveiro's squad, given the coach's track record of nurturing young talents such as Relebohile Mofokeng, Mohau Nkota, Siyabonga Ndlozi, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Pirates' pursuit of Kgositsile suggests that the club is preparing for a future where Saleng may no longer be expected to play a big role.

"Caracara (Kgositsile) is an exciting and diminutive winger who can make it at any club in the PSL (top flight). Looking at how well he has done at Baroka, I don't see him playing in the NFD (Motsepe Foundation Championship) next season. His game could further develop at a club like Pirates under their coach who is a great believer in young players. But they are not the only club interested in the player, as the likes of Stellenbosch and Chippa have been monitoring the boy," said the source.
