The Siya crew understands striker Samir Nurkovic has emerged as a target for Cape Town City ahead of next season.
Indications are that the Serbian spent several weeks being assessed by the Citizens before the end of the 2022/23 campaign, but a decision has not been made yet regarding a concrete offer.
Nurkovic has been without a club since his contract with Royal AM was terminated following a dispute over his wages, with the player's representatives taking the matter to world football governing body FIFA.
He had signed for the Durban outfit as a free agent after parting ways with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in June last year.
City can take their time considering Nurkovic hasn't kicked a ball following his debacle with Royal AM, but is keen on a return to the Premier Soccer League topflight, where he gained a reputation as a goal poacher.
The Mother City club have indeed assessed him and expressed an interest. However, there's nothing on paper as things stand.
Eric Tinkler's side also has to manage their foreign quota before the upcoming season because the PSL only allows clubs to register up to five players at any given point – and the coach had told journalists last month there were still seven on their books, which was a conundrum.
Unless City can open up space, the likelihood of Nurkovic – or any foreign player for that matter – coming on board looks bleak.
