Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho continues his search for a new home after parting company with the Glamour Boys last month. Soccer Laduma has since reported that the centre-back is not short of suitors following news that Polokwane City, who are returning to the DStv Premiership after three years in the second tier, have him on their radar.
The Siya crew has also now been informed the 33-year-old has been offered to Golden Arrows ahead of the new season. Mathoho spent more than a decade at Naturena, winning two league titles under then coach Stuart Baxter while in his prime.
But during the 2022/23 season with Arthur Zwane in charge, the veteran defender was overlooked and only played once – so, it came as no surprise when his contract with the Soweto giants was not renewed.
Shortly after his Chiefs exit was confirmed, Mathoho was invited by Gavin Hunt, who also coached him briefly at Amakhosi, to train with SuperSport United and keep fit with the hope he could impress him.
However, it's understood there's a slim chance the two will reunite before the start of the upcoming campaign. Arrows are in the market to beef up the team, with coach Vusumuzi 'Kanu' Vilakazi recently telling the media the club had promoted from their reserve league side and were open to recruiting, but not under pressure to do so.
It remains to be seen whether Abafana Bes'thende will consider signing the Bafana Bafana veteran or let the opportunity pass.
