Maritzburg United have reportedly put a R10 million price tag on the head of sensational attacking midfielder Rowan Human following their relegation from the DStv Premiership. The Team of Choice have already engaged in a mass clear-out of playing personnel following their drop to the second tier, including their technical department led by Fadlu Davids, which was let go by club boss Farook Kadodia.
Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town Spurs, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are jostling each other for Human's signature, according to Soccer Laduma sources. But if history of the South African football landscape is anything to go by, and despite sources revealing Amakhosi are leading the race as per last week's Siya Special, it goes without saying that the Brazilians may be the most willing to pay that kind of money.
Although anything is possible in football and one cannot discount the ambitious Buccaneers who have been doing exceptionally well in the transfer market during the off-season, it often takes a superhuman effort to beat a determined Sundowns to the punch. This publication has been informed that Pirates are hellbent on assembling a strong squad to both challenge Downs on the domestic front and go for the CAF Champions League next season, and a player like Human could be a huge asset to their dreams.
Chiefs, likewise, are in for the midfielder's services, although may now be scared off by the price tag. Human was one of the most outstanding performers for Bafana Bafana at the recent COSAFA Cup in Durban, where Morena Ramoreboli's men claimed the bronze medal after beating Malawi on penalties in the third place play-off, having lost in the semi-finals stage to Zambia.
Most notably, the stocky attacker rescued a point for the national team during their opening match against Namibia in a 1-1 stalemate and was a massive influence in the 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Botswana. But now back to his club, he will be anxious to find out where his next destination lies, having informed journalists in Durban that he prefers playing DStv Premiership football rather than going down to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
