Mamelodi Sundowns are looking at keeping experienced goalkeeper Denis Onyango for at least another season, the Siya crew understands. Indications are that the burly net minder has a career at the Tshwane giants beyond his playing days, but he is not quite ready to bring an end to an amazing career which has seen him win the PSL league title on 10 occasions.
The Ugandan's contract with the club is due to expire at the end of this month and it's been revealed to Soccer Laduma that there are talks happening behind the scenes, with an announcement on what happens next in his career to be made in the near future.
Onyango, a former PSL Goalkeeper of the Season aware recipient, is keen on staying with the star-studded side but is well aware of the fact that game-time will be hard to come by with Ronwen Williams doing incredibly well as number one shot-stopper at the club. In the past season, the 38-yearold made seven appearances in all competitions, which is far much less than what he was used to before the arrival of Williams from Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.
Even if Onyango were to leave the club, the Siya crew understands that Sundowns are open to the idea of him returning beyond his playing days, as they value his contribution throughout the years at Chloorkop. In recent years, the club has roped in ex-players Tiyani Mabunda, Teko Modise and Hlompho Kekana for roles outside the pitch.
Should Onyango look for regular game time elsewhere?
