Soccer Laduma had already reported how Chiefs were interested in the services of Tau, according to insiders privy to information.

Tau's reported contract standoff with Al Ahly, where negotiations have not progressed well so far, had opened the door for a possible return to the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).
However, the path to securing his signature is fraught with challenges. Tau, who has enjoyed a successful stint in Egypt, winning eight pieces of silverware, is at a pivotal point in his career.
The 30-year-old's desire for an improved contract at Al Ahly has not been met yet, leading to speculation about his next move.
Chiefs, eager to return to their glory days, view Tau as an ideal candidate to lead their revival. Yet, Siya sources have indicated that interest from Sundowns, Tau's former club where he rose to prominence before moving to Europe, adds a layer of complexity to Amakhosi's hopes.
"The stumbling block could be if Sundowns are seriously interested in him again or if he wants to go to Europe. But it's true Chiefs have inquired about Percy just like Sundowns did in January but could not get him," said the Siya source.
"So, for now it will all depend on that. Obviously it won't be easy because we are talking about big money involved here. But Chiefs are capable of signing big name players as they have done it in the past and it worked for them. I think this could work for them as well if it happens," the source told Soccer Laduma.
The financial implications of signing Tau are significant, with both Chiefs and Sundowns known for their ability to secure marquee signings, particularly the latter club being successful for getting their man in recent years. However, the allure of European football could also sway Tau's decision, having previously experienced life abroad with Brighton Hove Albion in England. Tau's ambition to compete at the highest level will be a critical factor in his decision-making process. His personal preference for his next career move remains the ultimate decider.
With the CAF Champions League final second leg against Esperance de Tunis on the horizon, Tau's focus is currently on helping Al Ahly secure another continental trophy. The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw in Egypt this weekend.
As the season draws to a close, speculation surrounding his future is set to intensify. Chiefs' pursuit of Tau underscores their ambition to rebuild a competitive squad capable of challenging Sundowns for titles.
