Insiders: Riveiro Wants DDC Player To Start For Pirates First Team

Insiders: Riveiro Wants DDC Player To Start For Pirates First Team

After spending two years on loan at Motsepe Foundation Championship side JDR Stars and later playing for the Orlando Pirates DDC team, the club has recalled a young winger, the Siya crew has been informed.

Sources at the club have indicated that winger Azola Tshobeni has been recalled from the DDC side to join the first team.

Insiders added that although the 22-year-old has been training with the first team, he was playing for the DDC side. The technical team, led by Jose Riveiro, now believes he is ready for top flight football. This is why he was on the bench on Tuesday when Bucs took on and beat TS Galaxy in PSL action.

"He is with the senior team now. You know he spent two seasons on loan at JDR Stars after being promoted from the reserves. But now the coach wants him to play. He has been fully recalled from the DDC and you will soon see him in action for the first team," said the Siya source.

"He is a very good winger both on the right and left depending on how the coach uses him. But he has been doing very well at training and in the DDC under coach Joseph Makhanya. That's why they have decided to recall him," the source added.

A second source stated that although he was initially promoted from Pirates' reserves in 2020 when he was only 18-years-old, he hardly played for the first team. However, he did enjoy his debut against Maritzburg United in January 2021 under former coach Josef Zinnbauer.

"If you recall very well he was first promoted in 2020 but he has spent two seasons on loan at JDR Stars and there was a time when he came back with injury and after recovering he had to play in the DDC league and he has been doing very well. But now he is fully recovered and ready for top flight football. The coach is happy and soon we could see him in action just like the other youngsters," the second insider stated.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

Last season, while at JDR Stars, the 22-year-old featured in many games. As Tshobeni returns to the Pirates first team, fans will be eager to see how the young winger performs in top flight football. With the technical team's confidence in his abilities, Tshobeni's recall marks an exciting development for both the player and the club.
